Gill Smith has been appointed Magna Housing Group’s equality and diversity champion.

She takes over the role from former Board member Ray Bugler, who retired in July 2009.

Gill, who has been on Magna’s Board since 2008, said: "It is important to ensure that all members of our community have equal access to affordable housing and other related services. I hope to play a part in ensuring that Magna achieves that aim."

Gill is a town planner who has worked in local government for more than 25 years, 22 of which have been in Dorset.

In her current role she is involved with the development of planning policy for affordable housing across the county. She has recently project managed a study of the housing needs of black and minority ethnic households in Dorset.

Magna, based in Dorchester, provides and manages more than 8,000 homes affordable homes to rent across the South West.

Magna’s equality and diversity policy officer Sally Huggins said:  “I am delighted Gill has been elected as E & D champion for all the board and committee members and look forward to working closely with her. Gill has already attended a meeting of the Magna Equality & Diversity Working Group and her input was very well received.”
