Business drivers benefit from road safety advice
1/26/2009
Dorset Police and Magna Housing are working together to provide expert road safety advice to Magna employees in Dorchester.
Dorset Police has delivered four driver education sessions to Magna staff whose work regularly involves driving – reaching 60 employees so far.
The latest courses were held on Tuesday 20 January 2009 and were delivered by Dorset Police driving instructor Mel Vincent and Chief Inspector Rick Dowell.
The sessions have been specifically developed for people who drive for work and cover a range of useful topics including health and safety legislation, vehicle dynamics and load, observation, hazard perception and driver fatigue.
Dorset Police Driving Instructor, Mel Vincent, said: “We’ve worked closely with Magna to develop an interactive course for business drivers that is not only educational, but interesting and enjoyable.
“Many of the audience drive every day as part of their jobs and the course aims to make employees aware of relevant legislation and what it means to them as business drivers.
“It also provides an ideal chance for participants to identify the potential risks on the roads and learn how to reduce these risks and be responsible drivers.”
Participants on the course have described it as “factual, accurate and helpful” and “an expert insight into every day risks”.
Magna Housing Association Director, David Aldwinckle, commented: “This is another great example of how well our working relationship with Dorset Police is benefiting many areas of our work.
“We want our staff to drive safely so they and other road users can expect to go home to their families each night.”
The Dorset Safety Camera Partnership has also put together a useful pack of guidance for business drivers. To request a pack, or to download information about safer driving, please visit their website.
