Magna Housing Association is doing its bit to promote energy efficiency in its residents' homes by giving away a massive 13,000 low energy light bulbs for FREE!

Low energy light bulbs are an easy way to save energy and money in the home and Magna hopes that many of their residents take up the offer.

Magna is working with British Gas to help provide energy saving measures to their residents, the bulbs are available from any of Magna’s offices.

Head of Magna’s technical services, Mark Allan, says, “In many homes 10-15% of the electricity bill can be for lighting. Low energy bulbs work like a fluorescent tube with an electrical current passing through gas, making the coating of the bulb glow brightly. Traditional bulbs also waste a lot of energy by turning it into heat rather than light. Every low energy bulb that our residents use can reduce their household’s electricity bill by £7 per year and in addition they last around twelve times longer than ordinary bulbs, making the savings even greater.”

All Magna residents are entitled to receive 2 of the light bulbs per household, which will be made available in a number of ways.

Residents can simply call in and collect their light bulbs from any of Magna’s offices, which are located in Bridport, Dorchester and Sherborne. In addition, new residents to Magna homes will be automatically issued with their two low energy bulbs. Sheltered housing officers will be distributing bulbs to Magna’s more senior residents living on sheltered housing schemes and bulbs will be distributed to residents living in Magna’s supported housing schemes. Also, Magna’s trade operatives, housing officers and community caretakers will be playing their part to distribute the energy savers to residents on their visits.
