16.05.07 - Magna fund helps essential local service

Members of Magna Housing Association’s Western Area Residents’ Panel have been spreading a little more goodwill, using their allocation of this year’s Community Initiative Fund.

The Residents’ Panel presented a donation of £2,500 to Bridport CAB this week to help fund training of volunteers who will provide help and advice to customers in their homes. The CAB is an invaluable service which provides help to many people in the area. A substantial percentage of these customers are Magna residents and so the Residents’ Panel were more than happy to help.

Magna’s community initiative fund was set up to help fund projects or to make donations to charities or agencies that will benefit Magna residents. April saw the start of a new financial year and with it another impressive £150,000 set aside for these projects or donations.

Ken Bodycombe, resident involvement manager for Magna, adds, “We welcome any suggestions for projects or donations from the community initiative fund. However, each successful application will need to show that it benefits a number of Magna residents, improve Magna residents’ environment in some way and that it involves work that would not necessarily be covered by any other means of funding.

The community initiative fund remains, as it has for several years, a resident led opportunity especially to benefit residents. The Area Residents’ Panels make the decision to approve or reject funding for applications. The panels are looking forward to receiving more requests for projects this year that will ultimately improve the environment and lives of residents.
