The Dorchester Business Improvement District (BID) Steering Group has certainly settled into its new surroundings since being provided with a temporary home by Magna Housing Association.

Magna suggested a couple of options for offices before providing the group with a much needed base in one of its properties in Linden Avenue in Dorchester at the end of January this year. This single person’s bedsit had been left empty while the future of the building was considered, so Magna was pleased to be able to offer it rent free to help the BID.

The accommodation on offer proved ideal for Dorchester BID’s needs and a licence for temporary office space for a period of 18 months was agreed at the start of this year. The group is now able to continue with its mission to enhance the appearance of the centre of town.

Magna director, David Aldwinckle, said, “We have been only too pleased to be able to assist the steering group with accommodation. As a major employer and as a landlord providing affordable housing, we are extremely keen to help any project that aims to enhance the business opportunities in the community.”

Phil Gordon, project manager at Dorchester BID, adds, “Magna has been brilliant! Coming up with the office space just when we needed it has given us a real boost. One of my main tasks at present is to visit all the businesses within the BID area to explain how much we can achieve working together and this office is the perfect location as it means I can walk everywhere.
If the business community decides to vote ‘yes’ in a ballot due in 2008, then the Dorchester BID will allow the rollout of a series of projects suggested and voted on by local businesses.
