20.06.06 - Magna rides again!!

14 Magna staff took part in the London to Brighton Bike ride this weekend in order to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation. They hope to raise more than £1,500 from sponsorship for the event.

The fourteen Magna riders all started the 54 mile bike ride at 8.30am on Clapham Common, London and all had reached Brighton Seafront by 4.00pm. Magna employee and competitor, David Kemp, said “The race was hard work and I struggled to get up a few of the hills, but once we had Brighton in sight it was a race to the finish. The race was a lot of fun with a really great atmosphere, all of us felt a great sense of achievement after we finished”.

Magna staff have taken part in the event once before and are always looking for new ways to raise money to donate to charity. This has led to teams taking part in sporting events such as half marathons, swimathons and sponsored walks.

This year’s London to Brighton ride was a big success for the British Heart Foundation. With 27,000 riders taking part, it was the biggest turnout ever, despite the heat. With such a large number of entrants they are hoping to top the 3 million pounds raised by the event in 2005.
