19.06.06 - Magna tenants donate money to essential service

Representatives from Magna Housing Association’s, Western Area Tenants’ Panel, helped brighten the day of some of Bridport’s older residents last week with a donation from their community initiative budget.

The donation of £5,000 was given to Age Concern in Bridport by Magna’s residents to be used for Chancery House. The donation comes from a budget which is administered by residents and used to support projects in the local community. Tenants’ Panel chairman, Martin Kendrick, is pleased to have been able to support the services provided, “Chancery House and Age Concern play an important part in the community. Many of Magna’s older residents come here to access the facilities on offer, so the Panel were more than happy to support it.”

Chancery House provides many services to older people from in and around Bridport. General day care is offered, along with lunches, activities every day, trips out, hairdresser and bathing facilities.

The services provided are essential to so many older people and so Barbara Maunder, welfare and general manager for Age Concern in Bridport, is particularly pleased, “This donation to Chancery House is wonderful. Just covering the costs of the day to day running here is difficult so this is a real godsend. We get a grant from social services but other than that we are self funded. We’re very grateful to Magna’s tenants’ panel.”
