Magna children in their element at the Summerthing

Bridport’s Summerthing Children’s Art Festival saw all manner of colourful and imaginative creatures, all designed and made by the children stroll through the sunshine to the Millennium Green in Bridport.

After a week of workshops, sponsored by Magna Housing Association’s Community Initiative Fund, the children took part in a parade and performances in the centre of Bridport.

The theme this year was elements, water and fire dragons along with birds on stilts and flowerpot creatures made up the creations in the parade. Stilt walking, music and face-painting were some of the artistic talents developed by the participants during the week, encouraged by the artists and the organiser Nikki Northover.

Magna sponsored both the overall event, and the western Residents Panel funded a further 10 children to attend the week-long event for free. Lindsey Cryer, who's daughter Bethany went to Summerthing, said “Bethany had a fantastic time and is hoping that the event will be sponsored again next year. I’ll be keeping in touch with Magna about next year’s plans!”

“The parade was stunning, the work which went into the costumes and routines was impressive” commented Delia Gooding, Western Panel Chairman.

Each residents panel distributes the Community Initiative Fund to local projects that support Magna residents.
