29.09.05 - All the fun of the fayre

Danesborough View Social Club its friends and helpers, made a great impact on the local community earlier this month with their Summer Fayre raising more than £300 to be donated to a ‘Community Lifeline Fund’.

The ‘Community Lifeline Fund’ has been set up by the Tenants’ Panel of Magna West Somerset Housing Association. The Fund was established by the Panel to help provide Lifeline equipment for those who are at risk or are vulnerable and wouldn’t ordinarily be able to afford the equipment. The summer fayre was the first event organised to raise money solely for the fund.

Proving a huge success, Danesborough Social Club raised money by selling cream teas, a nearly new stall, tombola, a raffle with a huge selection of prizes, lucky dip, a stall with home made cards and food produce and even an auction.

Magna West Somerset’s Community Lifeline offers a 24-hour alarm service to its customers through Lifeline units by way of an ordinary telephone connection. This service provides comfort and security to its many customers allowing them to continue living independently in their own homes.

Tenants’ Panel chairman, Marian Moran, said of the event, “I am over the moon and so thrilled with the enormous amount of hard work that was put into the event to help us provide Lifelines to those in need.”

Marian was even more astonished when collecting the cheque for the money raised for the Lifeline Fund to find that an anonymous donation had increased the balance to £450! Marian added, “This was a sterling effort made by the Danesborough Social Club, it is events like this that can help us make such a positive difference to some people’s lives. My very grateful thanks go to everyone involved in its organisation or who came along on the day.”
