14.12.06 - A greener Martinstown

Staff and tenant representatives from Magna Housing joined members of Winterborne St Martin Parish Council today, to celebrate the completion of improvement works to the Martinstown village green.

The village green is the central focal point of the village. The refurbished access provides a walkway for many villagers to and from the local shop, village hall and pub. The improvements have made walking over the area much easier and safer, especially for some of the more elderly residents and those using wheelchairs.

Local contractor, Michael Fry carried out the work. Funding was obtained from the Crossways Landfill Grant Scheme which was ‘unlocked’ by donations from many friends of the village green and a contribution of £500 from Magna’s Community Initiative Fund.

Chairman of the Parish Council, Patrick Jeffery said , “We want to say a big thank you for all the grants and donations that we received to make the work possible. There are also four seats situated on the green where people can take a rest and enjoy the scenery. We have also recently planted daffodil bulbs to really brighten up the area come spring.”

Jason Webster, community liaison manager for Magna said, “Our Eastern Area Residents’ Panel identified this scheme as one that would benefit from a donation from the community initiative fund. There are a number of Magna homes in Martinstown and many of the residents will feel the benefit of the improvements, so we were only too pleased help.”

Magna have also helped the Parish Council get a notice board erected that will help provide community information to residents in the Mallards Green area of the village.
