Winner, Linda Sertin, shows off the finished interpretation of her poster idea.

12.02.07 - A key message from Magna

Magna Housing has been working with its residents to help promote its culture of equality and diversity.

Through Magna’s residents’ magazine, Opendoor, residents were asked to take part in a poster competition. The aim of the poster was to help Magna promote the fair way that it works generally and, in particular, how it lets its properties without discriminating against anyone.

Residents were asked to provide an idea or a rough sketch, something that could be turned into a poster to show that Magna does not discriminate in any way. A number of residents took up the challenge and one talented resident from Chickerell won herself £50 in cash.

Linda Sertin of Marshallsay Road in Chickerell had the idea of using keys pointing to a Magna home. Within the keys Linda referred to people from all walks of life as well as different equality issues for example families, disabled and religion.

Linda says, “My point was that Magna can help people to have a key to a home. Everyone is entitled to a fair chance, irrespective of colour, creed, gender, disability, religion or even size.”

Sally Huggins, Magna’s equality and diversity policy officer, said “We took Linda’s idea and transformed it into a poster that we will be using to promote the way we work. We may well also use this when advertising in local and national publications and at events.”
