14.03.07 - Magna's invitation to comment on new homes

Proposed plans for a possible development of affordable homes will soon be unveiled to residents living in the Beaminster area. Magna Housing is in the process of actively pursuing a development opportunity for land at the end of Flaxfield Road in Beaminster.

Magna is planning a consultation event open to the public on Friday 23 March at the Public Hall at Beaminster’s Town Council offices in Fleet Street, from 12 noon to 5.30 pm. This event will allow local residents to influence the design of plans for an initial phase of 15 affordable homes.

In a survey commissioned by West Dorset District Council and undertaken by Dorset Community Action, Beaminster was identified as needing at least 40 new homes to meet the local housing need. Magna is hoping to help meet this need with this latest development.

Currently, 5 homes for affordable purchase under a scheme called ‘New Build HomeBuy’ (part buy/part rent) are planned which should include a good mix of flats and family homes for 4 or 5 people. 10 homes for affordable rent are also planned to include 4 flats and 6 family homes.

Development programme manager for Magna, Nigel Spencer, says, “This event will be a good opportunity for members of the local community to look at our proposals for additional homes in the area.”

As well as representatives from Magna, Tim Davis, lead officer, housing strategy and development for West Dorset District Council will be in attendance from 12 noon until 2pm to discuss housing needs in the Beaminster area.

Nigel adds, “Plans will be available on the day showing the layout of the different types of property, the initial phase of fifteen homes and also plans giving an indication of what a possible two further phases could look like. After listening to comments and feedback from the community we hope to submit our planning application in April.”
