Staff from Magna Housing Association have made their second donation from its Magna Employee Lottery (MEL).

The donation of £346.87 was made this week to the charity chosen by Magna staff, Cancer and Leukaemia in Children (CLIC). Representatives of MEL delivered the cheque to the local branch of CLIC in Yeovil this week.

Cancer is the largest killer disease in young children. Survivors of the disease face tough physical and mental challenges for which they need support. CLIC is now known as CLIC Sargent after merging with Sargent Cancer Care in Children in 2005. They provide care and support to children and young people with cancer and to their families. The charity also funds research projects to help sufferers and their families in the future.

This year staff taking part in MEL decided to donate one half of their charity fund to the British Heart Foundation and the second half to CLIC.

The donation came from a charity fund which builds up over a number of months from MEL which is an internal monthly lottery, giving staff a chance to win money and raise cash for charities of their choice at the same time.

Staff play with the hope that they’ll be one of three lucky winners each month who get a split of the proceeds. A percentage of the prize money collected is then set aside in a charity fund.
