23.07.07 - Charter and Rok lay time capsule with Sherborne pupils

Rok in partnership with Charter (S.W.) Ltd are building 11 affordable homes for Magna Housing Association on the site which is next to Sherborne County Primary School.

Pupils, representatives from Magna Housing Association and Rok staff joined with local school children to bury a time capsule under the foundations of the new housing development at the former garage site on McCreery Road, Sherborne.

Sealed in the time capsule are a number of small items including letters from the children of the school about their lives in 2007, newspapers and ‘A Little Book of Magna’

As well as the time capsule project pupils at the school also took part in a competition to name the £1million housing project, with the winning entry of School View Close being submitted by Thomas Chandler.

Graham Colls, Chief Executive of Magna Housing Group said: “It was great to join with Rok and Sherborne County Primary School to lay the time capsule underneath the site which will soon house local people.“

Steve Bradley, Rok Yeovil Area Leader said: “As the Nations Local Builder we’re pleased to be working with Magna Housing Association in creating much needed affordable homes for the local community.

“With the school so close to the site, burying a time capsule with them provided the ideal opportunity to mark the progress of work, and leave a piece of 2007 for future generations.”

Magna Housing Group provides and manages quality housing in the South West of England. Work started on this site in January and looks set to be complete by September 2007.

Rok, the building, maintenance and development company, was founded in 1939 and is fully listed on the London Stock Exchange. It aims to become The Nation’s Local Builder™ by operating from a network of offices in major towns across the UK, using dedicated teams who live and work in their communities.
