10.10.07 - Magna and The Princes Trust Volunteers working together with amazing results

Graham Colls, Group Chief Executive of Magna cuts the ribbon Richmond Green communal garden.Just a month from conception to completion, a communal garden at Richmond Green, Sherborne has been transformed by Magna staff, residents and Princes Trust volunteers.

In September 2007, the Trust approached Magna asking for suggestions for a communal space that could be enhanced by volunteer work. It was decided that Richmond Green was the ideal site. Volunteers set about fund raising and designing the project which was presented to residents on Friday 21st September. Once the design was agreed, the volunteers leapt into action. There is now a patio with four access points for wheelchair access, a sensory garden with perennial shrubs to help people with visionary impairments to enjoy the space. Benches and seating have been added to make a focal point for the community.

Magna’s Group Chief Executive, Graham Colls, opened the site on Friday 5th October after a luncheon for all involved parties. Graham had particular praise for the hardwork and vision of the young volunteers:

“The volunteers have won the hearts of the Sheltered residents. They really impressed the residents with their professional attitude and commitment to the project. Magna Housing Officers have also put a huge amount of time, energy and passion into this project and the direct result is a beautiful, tranquil space. I am delighted with the results.”
