Warnings have been issued by the Safer Homes Partnership and Somerset & Avon Police to be vigilant about who you let into your homes. Magna Housing Group is issuing a warning after a spate of distraction burglaries through the Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset areas.

The burglars have been seen driving a silver Mercedes car and pose as water board employees who have come to check the property. While one of them distracts the resident, the other moves about the home stealing valuables.

Magna Housing Group, as a registered social landlord, houses many elderly, disabled and vulnerable people and they are particularly concerned. They want to encourage all residents to ask for identification badges before letting anyone into their home. All legitimate Magna employees will carry an identification badge with contact details on.

If you see anything suspicious either at your own home, or unusual visitors at the home of a vulnerable neighbour, call the Police on 0845 456 7000.
