18.02.2008 -Magna partnership achieves excellence standard on eco homes Yarn Mill Close, Bridport

Magna Housing Association and its contractor, Rok, are delighted to announce that they have recently been awarded an ‘Excellent’ rating under the Housing Corporation’s EcoHomes accreditation scheme for some of its new properties in Dorset.

The development at Yarn Mill Close, Bridport, provides five new homes (two flats and three houses) and it achieved ‘Excellence’, after Magna decided to go over and above the minimum requirement set by EcoHomes.

The properties have many features that helped achieve such a high standard including low CO² emissions due to efficient gas boilers and a high level of insulation; lighting with dedicated low energy fittings and a high level of sound insulation. Cycle storage, home office space and internal recycling bins were all provided. Water consumption has also been reduced by using low flush toilets and flow restrictors on taps. In addition, a high proportion of the materials used were sourced because of their minimal impact on the environment and the development made good use of a ‘brownfield’ site with easy access to local amenities.

EcoHomes Assessor, Linda Randall, said, “The development scored 100% in all the management criteria. I should like to congratulate MHA and Rok on the achievement of the EcoHomes ‘Excellent’ score, which reflects the due care and attention to detail that went into this development.”

Mark Mabey, Group Head of Development for Magna said, " This site is the first to achieve this for Magna Housing Association and as such marks a milestone in our desire to provide new homes that are sustainable."

“Steve Bradley, Area Leader for Rok Yeovil, added, ‘We are delighted to achieve this rating and it is a true testament to the benefits of partnership working.”
