What are the different types of tenancy?
We have a number of different types of tenancies.
All general needs tenants now start off on a starter tenancy for 12 months before moving to what we call a fixed term tenancy (which is actually an assured shorthold tenancy). This is reviewed after any starter tenancy period plus a further five years.
People who signed an agreement earlier than April 2014 may be on different tenancy agreements, such as assured tenancy.
People living in sheltered accommodation sign a tenancy agreement that does not have a fixed term.
We also have licence agreements that apply to residents in supported housing.
Our tenancy policy sets out the circumstances in which we will grant each type of agreement. We aim to target resources at those in housing need, make best use of our properties and ensure that they are occupied in accordance with our charitable objectives.
