Selina White, Chief Executive for Magna Housing, said: “At Magna, our vision is to create great homes together, with our customers, with our communities, with our partners and with our people. As Magna’s Chief Executive, I am delighted that we have had the opportunity to sponsor and host the event again this year. This competition is a great way for local communities to showcase their work and demonstrate the benefits to local people and places”

Additional support for the competition comes from Dorset Council, Dorset Waste Partnership, The Dorset Echo, Dorset Magazine, Blackmore Vale Media, Dorset Archaeological Committee along with local food producers, Honeybuns, Helen Furness Catering and the Co-op Dorchester.

Volunteer Competition Organiser Rita Burden said: “The main aim of this competition is to encourage villages to share with others their community spirit and receive awards for their sterling efforts. This I am happy to say has been achieved again this year.”

Besides the main “Best Village” competition, there are four other entry sections: -

  • “The People’s Project” - the village judged to have entered the best project involving local active people
  • “Environmental Champions” - the village judged to be doing the best ‘Green’ initiative
  • “Best Village Shop” – sponsored by the Dorset branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE). Communities are asked to nominate the village shop which serves them best.
