We’re sharing the great work we’re doing at Magna ahead of World Mental Health Day, tomorrow.
Last year we formed a wellbeing supporters group, with colleagues from around the business, to support and promote healthy lifestyles and positive mental health. We wanted this to be led by our colleagues, many of whom have first-hand experience of both mental and physical health issues. We empowered them to develop and deliver events, campaigns and activities that they knew people would benefit from. This has included events to raise awareness of important physical and mental health matters and promoted the importance of good working relationships.
At the start of this year, no one could have predicted what would be around the corner with Coronavirus and the huge shift, virtually overnight, to new ways of working because of closed offices, lockdowns and the overarching need to protect our customers and colleagues.
Our wellbeing supporters had to quickly adapt to this change, identifying the need to support the mental health of our colleagues who had either been furloughed or suddenly working from home while juggling home schooling or being affected by Covid-19.
Kate Legg, one of our wellbeing supporters, said: “It’s been a worrying time for everyone. I’m so glad the support group was already in place and ready to help our colleagues. We immediately let people know we were still there for them, and that they could still contact us. Often, they just wanted to chat to someone and know they’re not the only ones feeling isolated and overwhelmed.”
“We’re available to our colleagues using multiple platforms and regularly use Yammer to share important issues, providing tips and advice. Most importantly, we’re available to listen without judgement or criticism, which is probably the most effective tool of all.”
Our colleagues have adjusted really well to the changes that we have implemented and we’re proud of how they have embraced these changes and the technology we’ve provided to help them work in an agile way. Our wellbeing supporters provide a fantastic service, ensuring everyone in #TeamMagna is supported to look after their health and wellbeing in these challenging times.
We’re proud of our wellbeing group and we are proud to support #WorldMentalHealthDay.
