The safety of our customers, their homes and our colleagues is our top priority.

Recently, members of our building safety team attended a training day with Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service where they learnt about fire dynamics, techniques for tackling fires and fire prevention, as well as the practical use of fire extinguishers.

Head of Building Safety and Compliance, Stephanie Lloyd-Foxe, said: “Spending time to train and develop our colleagues is vital so we all understand the importance of the work we need to do to prevent fires from happening in the first place. Through education, early detection, and adequate compartmentation, we can reduce the risk of fires and of fires spreading.

“Days like this really drive home the risks, seeing first-hand how quickly a fire can become established, and the temperatures reached, really makes an impact. We learnt practical fire fighting techniques, as well as arming ourselves with greater knowledge that can be used to educate and inform our customers.”

Whatever our colleagues do in their day-to-day work impacts customer safety - from data entry to project management, everyone is working towards keeping our customers safe.

Stephanie added: “We work closely with the fire service to reduce risk wherever we can and to see live fire scenarios including a flashover, chip pan fire, and controlled gas ignition was a fantastic opportunity to learn, and also further develop our relationship with the fire service.

“The day was informative and enjoyable, and we all have a greater appreciation of the incredible, often hazardous work that the fire service undertakes.”
