We caught up with Chloe Gallagher for Learning at Work Week to find out more about the extra learning and development she’s been doing as part of her role here at #TeamMagna.
Chloe is one of our Building Safety Managers, looking after a team of five experienced colleagues who deal with all things fire safety to help keep our customers safe in their homes.
She said:
“I really enjoy my role. It’s so varied every day, although it can be incredibly challenging and somewhat daunting, as we are dealing with life safety.
“My favourite part of my role is providing training across the business, as well as taking part in customer engagement and outreach. I do a lot in customers’ homes, and I get to meet so many different people.”
Chloe recently completed gaining her NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety qualification, an internationally recognised qualification in fire risk assessment and best practice, alongside her full-time role in the building safety team. She continued:
“I already had the Colin Todd Fire Risk Assessment qualification, and this was to build on that as a recognised Level 3 certification.
“We had four days in the classroom with homework each night, and then the fifth day was a mock exam which took quite a few hours. The exam itself a few weeks later was open-book and took me 14 hours to complete!
“I was so relieved when I received my result, which was a Distinction! I was super happy with that.”
One of our values is #BeCurious, and we strongly believe in encouraging all our colleagues to continue learning and developing their skillset and exploring their interests within their roles here at Magna. Chloe finished by saying:
“I use all the training and learning I have undertaken at Magna every day. If it’s not applying something new that I have learnt, it’s giving me more confidence in applying what I already know.
“I have always worked in the private sector, both in London and Dorset, and I have genuinely never worked for a company that invests in their staff’s personal and professional development like Magna do.
“This year I’ll be undertaking my next level up for Passive Fire Protection, which is the Level 3 Intermediate award. Alongside that, there will be some Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans training.
“The ultimate goal for me in the future is to undertake my Level 6 Diploma in Building Safety Management from CIOB. It’s like doing a degree, which will be challenging alongside my full-time job, but that is my goal - watch this space!”
We’re proud to have passionate and driven colleagues like Chloe who are always looking for new opportunities to learn and grow within their roles at Magna to provide the best possible service to our customers.
