Continuing with Learning at Work Week, we spoke to Connor Eglon, who is studying alongside his full-time role at Magna with the ultimate goal of becoming a qualified CILEX Lawyer.

Connor’s current role as our Governance, Legal and Risk Administrator sees him managing enquiries from customers and helping us to provide a great customer experience. But Connor’s journey at Magna didn’t start where he is now.

He said:

“I started in the contact centre as a Customer Care Advisor, which helped me understand what matters most to our customers and how important clear communication and the right support can be.

“I then moved into a Customer Repairs Specialist role, where I supported complex repair cases and worked with colleagues across the organisation to make sure repairs were properly planned and completed correctly. Moving into my current role felt like a natural next step, allowing me to build on my experience.”

Connor told us that throughout his time at Magna, he’s seen how legal processes and good decision-making can make a real difference to customers’ experiences, which drove him to start his journey of becoming a qualified CILEX Lawyer. He continued:

“I want to become a CILEX Lawyer because it allows me to build a strong understanding of the law while staying closely connected to real people and situations.

“The CILEX route is more accessible for people who work full-time, as it allows you to earn, learn, and progress at the same time. This flexibility has made it possible for me to develop my career while continuing to support Magna and our customers.

“My current focus is on successfully completing the Foundation stage and becoming a qualified CILEX Paralegal. If I’m successful, my intention is to progress through the Advanced and Professional stages to become a CILEX Lawyer.”

Connor is still in the early stages of his learning journey but has learned lots from working alongside his colleagues outside of his studies as well, such as seeing how legal principles are applied in real situations which has helped him understand the importance of clear records and good communication.

He finished by saying:

“What drives me to keep developing my career is knowing that the work I do contributes to keeping people safe in their homes and supporting our customers. Growing up in social housing myself, I strongly believe that everyone deserves a safe, secure place to live.

“My advice to anyone considering studying alongside full-time work would be to be realistic and kind to yourself. It takes commitment, but having a simple routine and studying little and often really helps.”

Connor’s journey has really inspired us, and we’re proud to have colleagues that are passionate about developing their career to new heights with the intention of providing better services and safe homes for our customers.
