Do I need insurance for my home?

Buildings insurance

For most Magna homes, we are responsible for insuring the structure of your home against major risks such as fire, flood, subsidence and storm damage. This insurance doesn't cover the cost of replacing things that are damaged as a result of ‘wear and tear’ or your contents.

Some of our older shared ownership leases state that the homeowner is responsible for their own buildings insurance. If you're not sure if you're responsible for your own insurance, an easy way to check is to see if you're being charged for it in your service charges.

We are responsible for buildings insurance for all of our rented properties.

Contents insurance

We have insurance for the building you live in, but we're not responsible for insuring your furniture, belongings or decorations against theft, fire, burst pipes and other household risks.

You should also have insurance for changes you've made to your home which you've paid for, such as a new conservatory, kitchen or wooden flooring.

Contents insurance is designed to help protect your belongings. No matter how careful you are, there’s always a risk that things get broken, damaged or stolen.

To help you decide what home contents insurance is right for you, we've teamed up with Thistle Tenant Risks and Great Lakes Insurance UK Limited. They provide the My Home Contents Insurance Scheme, a Tenants Contents Insurance policy designed for tenants living in social housing. Buy online with monthly Direct Debit

It’s now easier for you to get covered with the My Home online platform. You can now buy your home contents policy online when paying monthly via direct debit. Please note paying by direct debit is more expensive than other payment options.
