Sheltered housing

We have around 1,400 sheltered homes for older people who want to live independently, but with the security of knowing there are people on hand to help when needed. Most of these homes are flats or bungalows, with one or two bedrooms. We also have a few studio flats and houses.

See a map of where our schemes are.

We offer four levels of sheltered service: Sheltered, Sheltered Plus, Low level and Extra Care.

Sheltered

All of our sheltered schemes have an emergency call system. Customers living in these homes can contact our sheltered housing or careline staff 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Many schemes have a communal room available to use for socialising and activities and gardens to enjoy. Some also have guest rooms available for residents’ families to stay, for a small charge.

Sheltered Plus

Ingrams Meadow in Somerset is currently our only sheltered plus scheme, with 29 homes that are flats or bungalows. All homes are fitted with an outside key safe. They all have a double bedroom (some may have 2 bedrooms), a fitted kitchen (no white goods provided), living space and a bathroom or wet room.

A Sheltered Housing Advisor is on-site from 9am until 5pm, Monday to Thursday, and from 9am until 4:30pm on Friday (not bank holidays). Every home also benefits from a 24-hour Careline alarm service.

Regular social activities include bingo, coffee mornings, fish and chips and raffles. Customers are welcome to arrange their own social activities as well!

Low level sheltered

We have 17 different schemes that can offer a low level sheltered service. These schemes offer a mixture of flats and bungalows, all with a double bedroom (some may have 2 bedrooms), fitted kitchen (no white goods provided), living space and a bathroom or wet room.

We carry out a monthly wellbeing check, along with quarterly pull cord and smoke alarm checks, while still offering the perfect balance of safety and independence.

Extra Care

We have two extra care schemes, one in Dorset and one in Somerset.

Silvermead, Somerset

Silvermead in Somerset offers 26 flats and is only a 10-minute walk from Minehead seafront.

Communal laundry facilities, a lift to the first floor, wheelchair accessible patio area, mobility scooter stores and a spacious communal shower room, both for individual and private use, are all available on site.

Applications for extra care are made through Somerset Direct where an Adult Social Care practitioner will carry out an assessment of care needs. If you would like to know more about this process please email Danielle Jennings. We do allow viewings and visits to the scheme by appointment.

Our extra care scheme also provides:

  • Main building communal areas covered by CCTV to provide a secure and safe environment.
  • Home help at an additional charge.
  • Lunchtime meal provision at an additional charge, served in our modern and comfortable lounge or delivered to your door on request.
  • Access to our to our free money matters service to maximise income and reduce expenditure where possible through benefits eligibility checks, utility comparisons etc.
  • 24/7 alarm service with sleep in carer to attend (alarm system is a personal charge)
