Storm damage

Storms, floods and snow can damage your home and the area around it. Here's what to do if this happens and how we handle repairs after bad weather.

Storm damage:

Storms can damage fences or blow them over. Let us know straight away. This is especially important if the fence has fallen onto a public path or road. We'll make it safe, but we may not replace it straight away.
Storms can move roof tiles or make them loose. Please report any loose tiles to us as soon as you can.
Who you should tell about fallen trees depends on where it is. It the tree is on a road or pavement, report it to the council. If it's in a communal area we own, please report to us. If the tree is in your garden, you are responsible for dealing with it. But if it's damaged your home, please report the damage to us.
If you have a power cut, contact your energy supplier by calling 105.

Flooding:

If your home is flooded, let us know straight away.
If blocked road drains or gullies are causing flooding near your home, report it to the council using the links on our flooding advice page.
If you need sandbags, we have a small supply we can give you, but Dorset and Somerset councils can also provide them. Find out more about getting sandbags.

Snow:

We provide grit bins at all of our sheltered schemes and refill them regularly. You can use the grit on paths around your home. We don’t usually grit paths or roads ourselves, but, if there's a problem where you live or your grit bin is empty, please let us know.
Bad weather can make travel difficult. This may mean that our reapirs team and other colleagues aren’t able to get to you for an appointment. If we need to cancel or rearrange your appointment, we’ll let you know as soon as we can.

Which repairs we deal with first

We treat storm and flood damage to your home as emergency repairs.

Fencing damage is only an emergency if it affects a public right of way.

We'll make damage fencing safe, but we won't replace it straight away. We have a lot of fence repairs to do at the moment, so you'll need to wait for a replacement.

When we visit for an emergency repair, our aim is always to make the damaged part of your home safe, but we may have to come back at a later date to finish the repair. Find out which repairs we treat as emergency, urgent hazards or routine repairs.
