In response to the national pressure to increase the housing stock by delivering new homes, and compounded with the urgency to provide quality affordable housing, Magna have chosen to seek innovate ways to address this to enable everyone to have a home they can be proud of.
Initially, in 2019, Magna developed a partnership with a local company, Rollalong, to evolve our standard house types into a factory built, sustainable and flexible home. The benefit of using our house types portfolio being the decade of design and testing with customer feedback, and the flexibility to meet the increased footprint to accommodate the new NDSS standard sizes.
Built off-site in a factory-controlled setting, they are therefore more cost-effective to maintain and quicker to construct; the homes also generate less waste during construction and have a lower carbon footprint in use than traditional brick houses, making this a sustainable housing solution.
Working closely with Rollalong and their design team we have successfully created modules that can be delivered across the local narrow road and lane networks throughout Dorset and Somerset to enable new modular homes and communities to be created. Examples of our new developments using the exciting modular homes can be found at:
Barton Gardens, Sherborne
Bull Bridge Mead, Halstock
McCreery Road, Sherborne
Our first commissions have allowed the construction of 95 factory built homes, and now with another partner, Wiltshire County Council, we have expanded this into a fully functioning Framework, “As Easy as 1,2,3”, through SWAP for 1000 homes offering a factory Net Zero Carbon ready all electric solution.
